How Everton Have Lined Up

Because of Jarrad Branthwaite’s injury, James Tarkowski and Michael Keane have been the centre back partnership that has started in front of Jordan Pickford’s net. Ongoing injuries in the squad have led to Ashley Young starting at right back for most of the season. While on the left, Vitaliy Mykolenko has started when fit.

Idrissa Gueye remains one of Everton’s most important players and will start any game if fit. Alongside him has been a rotation of players, including Orel Mangala and Abdoulaye Doucouré in the last two games.

Iliman Ndiaye and Dwight McNeil have formed a partnership and are switching between left midfield and the second striker role. Jesper Lindstrøm started his third game of the season on the right of midfield against Southampton.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has started every Premier League match this season, but pressure is mounting for the “powerful” striker Beto to replace him in the lineup.

Everton Recent Form and Tactics

Everton handed Southampton their first clean sheet in a 1-0 away defeat last match. The Toffees still sit outside the relegation zone despite their poor start to the season. However, they face a Hammers team that has had a similarly disappointing start to the season; they sit just two spots ahead in 14th.

The Blues have never been more reliant on the long ball to create their chances. Last season they could force teams into turnovers higher up the pitch but have been unable to recreate that this season.

They also have the least amount of progressive carries in the league. This is despite the addition of Ndiaye, who excels with the ball at his feet. If The Toffees are to get a result at the London Stadium, it will result from deep balls to the wide areas.

Lindstrøm and McNeil will be crucial in Sean Dyche’s 4-2-3-1 system as they occupy the wide areas. Whichever striker is to start will have their work cut out against The Hammers central defenders who all stand at 6’3 or taller.

Everton Injuries To Consider

Dyche outlined player availability in this week’s press conference. Branthwaite has been eased into playing time to avoid another reinjury. Ndiaye and Doucoure are both ‘hopefuls’ after missing some training this week. Armando Broja has joined first team training but is still a while off making his debut for the club.
