Alan Shearer shares ‘awful’ Everton verdict after West Ham draw with only one player deserving any praise

Everton bounced back from their defeat against Southampton with a draw on the road against West Ham United.

It may be another point on the board for Sean Dyche’s side but it was far from a classic at the London Stadium.

As far as the Toffess are concerned there has to be some positives taken from their defensive work although not all Everton fans were pleased with Jarrad Branthwaite’s return.

Everton can now look forward to the international break with their next game coming in two weeks against a Brentford side who are in fine form.

However, Dyche’s side are going to have to be much improved if they are to take anything from that game with Alan Shearer not impressed with what he saw in the capital on Saturday.

Alan Shearer criticises West Ham vs Everton showing

A lot was left to be desired on Saturday with both managers under a considerable amount of pressure following their recent results.

Dyche has been slammed by the Everton fans recently for some of his team selection decisions including Branthwaite’s absence.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Shearer admitted he was left really disappointed with the showing at the London Stadium.

“It was a better point for Everton given that they were away from home,” he said.

“Jordan Pickford made a big save in the last minute or so, but other than that West Ham didn’t really threaten. Overall it was an awful game.”

Everton have Jordan Pickford to thank

In what was a really toothless display from the Everton attack, the Toffees will have their goalkeeper to thank for keeping the score level.

It was not until the final minutes of the game until Jordan Pickford was really tested but he remained sharp right until the full time whistle.

  • 6 saves made
  • 1.54 goals prevented
  • 1 high claim
  • 5 saves inside the box
  • 62 % pass accuracy

England fans slammed Pickford during the last international break for his involvement in their defeat to Greece.

However, he has done little wrong at Everton to warrant much criticism from the Toffees with Saturday’s showing a really important one from the shot stopper.
