Newcastle United will be reacquainted with Elliot Anderson on Sunday.

The midfielder left Newcastle for Sunday’s Premier League opponents Nottingham Forest earlier this summer and has since hit the ground running.

Indeed, the 22-year-old has already registered three assists for Forest and has been hailed for some of his early performances, while former Newcastle forward Chris Wood is also in fine form.

It will be pretty painful to see Anderson line up against his boyhood club. Eddie Howe, after all, has confirmed the club did not want to sell the player but were forced to in order to avoid a points deduction if they were to have breached the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Howe constantly talked up Anderson’s ability and it will be gutting to see a player to have emerged from the academy strutting his stuff for another side, particularly if Forest win.

Still, from the player’s perspective, things really have worked out.

How people close to Elliot Anderson really feel about him leaving Newcastle

According to the Daily Mail, those close to Anderson believe the move to Forest was the best thing for him, having embraced the challenge of leaving his hometown for pastures new.

While he did not want to leave and backed himself to succeed on Tyneside, the move away has certainly agreed with Anderson at this stage of his career.
