Jadon Sancho has got Manchester United fans talking after leaving a one-word comment on Marcus Rashford’s social media post.

On Sunday afternoon, Rashford was included in Aston Villa’s squad for the first time since moving to the club on loan for the rest of the 24/25 season.

Unai Emery’s men welcomed Tottenham Hotspur to Villa Park as the two teams battled for a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Villa came away 2-1 winners thanks to goals from Jacob Ramsey and Morgan Rogers. New signing Mathys Tel netted for the visitors.

Marcus Rashford has broken his silence after making his Aston Villa debut against Spurs on Sunday.

Rashford was made surplus to requirements at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim and attracted interest from a whole host of sides, including BarcelonaAC Milan and Borussia Dortmund.

But as the January window drew to a close Villa were able to convince Rashford to join on a loan until the end of the season to provide a new challenge that he was keen for.

Villa are covering a good chunk of Rashford’s wages and the Midlands side have the option to make the move permanent for a fee of £40 million when the loan expires.

He started on the bench in the FA Cup clash with Spurs at Villa Park and came on for his debut alongside fellow loanee Marco Asensio, who has signed from Paris Saint-Germain.

Villa were 2-0 up courtesy of goals from Jacob Ramsey and Morgan Rogers but Rashford, wearing the No.9 shirt, had a huge point to prove and looked incredibly sharp in his 30-minute cameo.

The 27-year-old pressed and worked tirelessly, won duels against defenders and linked up wonderfully with his new teammates.

Villa conceded a late consolation when Spurs forward Mathys Tel bagged on his full debut but after returning to the pitch for a first outing since mid December, a delighted Rashford took to Instagram to post a message.

Emery excited about attacking options

While Villa may have lost Jhon Duran in a £64.5 million switch to Al Nassr, they still a wealth of attacking options at their disposal after bringing in three forwards in the January window.

Ollie Watkins missed the win over Spurs with injury and yet Villa were still fluid as ever in the final third.

Discussing the new recruits, Emery told the BBC: “We have to protect every player and try to adapt them into our structure and use their skills. Asensio, Rashford and Malen are versatile players in the attacking third. We can feel confident to have them.

“We are very demanding in our way because we want to be in the top six or top five in the Premier League as well as in the Champions League, where we are in the last 16.”

Rashford will be looking to make his full debut for the club on Saturday when Villa host Ipswich Town in the Premier League.

Fans think Marcus Rashford sent hidden message to Man Utd in his first interview at Aston Villa

Marcus Rashford’s comment didn’t go unnoticed among Manchester United fans.

Fans think Marcus Rashford sent a hidden message to Manchester United in his first interview at Aston Villa following his transfer.

Villa have completed the signing of Rashford, securing his services on an initial loan deal until the end of the season.

The deal includes an option to buy him in a permanent transfer for £40 million.

A minimum of 75 per cent of his wage will be covered by Villa, who have not paid a loan fee to Man United.

Several clubs were keeping tabs on the 27-year-old, including BarcelonaParis Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund.

But Rashford admitted Villa’s ambition made a move to the Midlands club an attractive proposition.

He also made a comment that has not gone unnoticed among Man United supporters on social media.

The star forward explained how it’s ‘only a short-term’ move to Villa, with fans convinced he’ll return to Old Trafford next summer.

“It’s a club that’s in a good position in the league, and they’re pushing to get higher. Still in the Champions League, a good, ambitious manager and great talent in the squad,” he told the club’s official website.

“I’ve had to choose somewhere where I feel my style of football is suited to, and can help them and help me rediscover and improve as a player.”

He added: “Obviously it’s only short-term I’m here, so I want to make the most of my time here, and the only way to do that is by using my attributes and my skillset to help the team.”

Rashford’s ‘short-term’ claim got people online talking.

One X user wrote: “That last sentence sounds like he’s prepared to only be here for 6 months. Still though, let’s hope he performs and potentially he can stay.”

A second said: “‘It’s only short term’…”

A third argued: “The ending to the interview worries me. I don’t want Aston Villa to make players better to then go back to there parent club.”

Rashford joins Villa, having scored seven goals in 24 appearances across all competitions this season.

Jadon Sancho defends Marcus Rashford with social media post after Man Utd forward dropped by Ruben Amorim

The Chelsea loanee gave his thoughts.

Jadon Sancho has seemingly leapt to the defence of former Manchester United teammate Marcus Rashford.

Sancho, 24, is currently on loan at Chelsea, having spent the second half of the 2023/24 season at Borussia Dortmund after falling out with then-United boss Erik ten Hag.

His former United teammate Rashford, 27, has been the subject of widespread speculation from fans, media and ex-players in recent weeks after he was left out of United’s 20-man matchday squad ahead of their 2-1 win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium last Sunday.

Since then, Rashford revealed that he is “ready for a new challenge” when speaking with journalist Henry Winter this week. The England international was once again omitted from Amorim’s squad for the 4-3 Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat against Spurs on Thursday evening.

On Friday, ESPN posted a graphic containing Ian Wright’s defence of Rashford.

“I got to Arsenal at 28, but you expect ME to write off someone with the ability Marcus [Rashford] has at 27!!!!” Wright commented on a video posted to The Overlap’s Instagram page.

“So many of you are desperate to see these young people fail so that you can say you were right!”

Sancho then commented on ESPN’s post, simply posting a ‘speaking’ and ‘100’ emoji, seemingly in agreement with the former Arsenal forward’s take.

In the latest episode of The Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet, Wright once again defended Rashford after Gary Neville asked him if the United man would improve Arsenal’s goalscoring options.

“I think he has that capability,” said Wright.

“27 is not a age to be writing someone off,” he added.

“He has the capability.”

“I think he is somebody in a different dressing room with a different environment around him, he has the ability,” explained the former Arsenal man.

Since being left out of Amorim’s squad the United forward has been linked with several clubs with Al-Ittihad emerging as a potential destination earlier this week.

However, there is one club in particular that are heavy favourites to sign the 27-year-old.

PSG have been linked with a move for Rashford, whose current United contract is set to run until the summer of 2028.

It has been suggested that out-of-favour forward Randal Kolo Muani could go the other way or left-back Nuno Mendes may be used as part of a ‘swap deal’.
