West Ham have a decent squad, but an extremely unbalanced and ageing one at the same time.
Graham Potter will have to change all of that in the summer, with numerous new additions needed at the London Stadium.
The 49-year-old Hammers head coach is said to be planning a big squad rebuild at West Ham in the summer transfer window.
There will obviously be a need for Potter to bring in some big new signings. However, numerous players will have to be moved on as well.
In addition to that, the West Ham boss can look to the academy in order to bolster his ranks, and players currently out on loan who are set to return to the club in the summer.
Freddie Potts dreams of West Ham first-team role
West Ham sent Freddie Potts out on loan to join Portsmouth in the summer.
And the 21-year-old has been a huge hit at Fratton Park. Pompey boss John Mousinho has been absolutely raving about Potts this term, describing him as ‘excellent’.
Could the Hammers academy graduate go on to be a first-team regular at the London Stadium when he returns to the club in the summer though?
He certainly thinks so.
Potts explained how representing the Hammers at senior level has always been his dream, as quoted by West Ham official YouTube account:
“I want to be a West Ham player, and I want to start in the West Ham first-team. That’s always been a dream of mine, and that’s the mission I want to try and achieve.“

You know what they say – aim high with your dreams, and Potts is certainly doing just that.
Two reasons why Freddie Potts will make it at West Ham
Potts has already actually played three senior games for the Hammers.
And I believe he has what it takes to make it at the very highest level for West Ham…for two very specific reasons.
Firstly, he has a key advantage over most players, and that is that he is an academy graduate and boyhood Hammers fan.
Because of that, he will naturally have the hunger and desire required to give absolutely everything for the badge.
Secondly, one area where Potts excels is his engine. The 21-year-old has terrific stamina, energy and all round athleticism.
The Hammers are crying out for those attributes right now.
And I think Freddie Potts could well be the man to provide that for West Ham next season and beyond.
- One thing’s for sure, Graham Potter is the type of manager who will give him a chance to prove himself at the London Stadium.
