Newcastle United learn £26m asking price of star who had Alan Shearer blown away

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer was on commentary duty this week and was left blown away by Celtic ace.
Newcastle United would have to pay a fee of £26million to land Celtic star Nicolas-Gerrit Kuhn.
Chronicle Live were first to report the Magpies’ interest in Kuhn back on January 19 but since then his reputation has soared further. Kuhn has 18 goals to his name this term and netted in Celtic’s creditable away draw against Bayern Munich this week.
Unfortunately for Kuhn’s team it was not enough to steer Celtic to extra time and their brave bid to make the knockout phases collapsed at the death. Nevertheless, Kuhn’s performance and goal left Newcastle legend Alan Shearer blown away. Newcastle icon Shearer, working on Prime Video as a pundit, said of Kuhn’s goal: “He did not waste his opportunity. He did not give up on it, took a touch and it was deserved. Some of his play was fantastic and that goal was as well.”
With Leeds United also keeping tabs on Kuhn, he is set to be a sought after summer transfer but he won’t come cheap. And Celtic are in line to make a massive profit given they landed a bargain last year.
His manager Brendan Rodgers said of Kuhn, who is a frontrunner for the Scottish Premiership player of the year and also being monitored for a full Germany call up: “Nicolas is a player who’s improving, and he has still got more improvement for me. That needs to come from where he was at when he first came in to now. He’s been a consistent performer, so I’m really pleased about that.”
Celtic paid £3m to Austrian side Rapid Vienna for Kuhn but may look to cash in next summer. The former Germany Under-20 star has been in sparkling form this season for Rodgers’ side with those 18 goals and 11 assists to his name for the Scottish Premiership table toppers.
