Ross Barkley breaks silence on injury after missing 10 Aston Villa matches

Aston Villa midfielder Ross Barkley has revealed he has been sidelined with a knee ligament injury.

The 31-year-old has been out since January 10 after coming off in the first half of Villa’s win over West Ham in the FA Cup third round with a calf problem.
He has since missed the club’s last seven league games and is expected to be unavailable to feature against Crystal Palace on Tuesday night.
He had an outside chance of returning against Liverpool last week, but didn’t make the squad against the Reds or Chelsea last time out.

Unai Emery previously said it has taken Barkley more time to recover than expected, but on X, the player has given an update himself.
Responding to a supporter, Barkley said: “MCL tear*. Calf happened trying to play on with the knee issue. Not far off.”

Tyrone Mings came off in the second half of Villa’s win over Chelsea on Saturday due to a knee problem and could miss the trip to Selhurst Park.

Morgan Rogers also came off late on Saturday after being on the end of a heavy tackle and will be assessed before Villa head to the capital tonight.
