Newcastle set to be offered £60m deal with Liverpool happy to cut losses

Newcastle United have been linked with another forward ahead of the summer transfer window, with another high profile name set to be offered our way.
Sporting director Paul Mitchell is set to have his hands full with both a goalkeeper, centre-back, versatile attacker and right-winger part of his plans for the next transfer window, according to The Mail.

Over the past month, The Chronicle have reported that Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen could be offered our way, with representatives expected to be in touch with Toon chiefs, and a certain Liverpool forward the latest to crop up.

Arne Slot is preparing to oversee a clear out on Merseyside this summer, with the Express reporting the Dutchman has several players he plans to move on following his first season at Anfield.
Newcastle are one of several clubs who will be offered £85m flop Darwin Nunez this summer as the soon-to-be Premier League champions Liverpool plan a squad overhaul, according to The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder.

Despite being 25 now, Nunez’ ability is still raw with Slot unable to get the best out of the all-action but erratic South American.

His big-money move from Benfica is looking more and more like a poor bit of business by the Reds. With the Uruguayan scoring six goals this season, he is “expected to be sold” this summer after dropping out of Slot’s long-term plans.

Liverpool are still said to be looking to recoup a sizable £60m of their investment for the striker who has no direct goal contributions in his last nine, with Newcastle already ruling out a swap deal for Alexander Isak plus cash according to Ryder.
Nunez was scouted by Newcastle during his time with Benfica, but whether or not that interest remains after a disappointing start to life in England is unclear.

Considering the priorities will surely lie at centre-back and on the right wing, Newcastle are unlikely to be in a position to spend £60m on the forward.

Alternatively, if Eddie Howe was to lose the services of Isak during the summer then Nunez would simply not be a good enough replacement to complete our objectives. We’d be selling a clinical talisman for an erratic Nunez who misses chances Isak regularly takes.

Should Isak stay, it would surely be an excessive fee for a back-up option. Callum Wilson’s contract expires in the summer, and he is shown little reason to activate his one-year extension with recent performances, but £60m for his replacement doesn’t seem feasible or worth it.
