Newcastle United are plotting a big-money move for Ipswich Town star Liam Delap after sending scouts to track his progress.
That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 22-year-old is high on the list of options for Eddie Howe.
However, the Magpies are expected to be joined in their interest by a number of top sides who have been keeping a close eye on his performances this season.
Football Insider revealed on 10 February that both Man United and Chelsea want to sign Delap, who is “desperate” to remain in the Premier League.
The striker has scored 10 league goals so far this season in a side which has struggled to pick up points, having won just three of their 28 games.
As a result, they look set to be relegated alongside both of the teams who were promoted alongside them last season in Southampton and Leicester.
Brown told Football Insider that Ipswich will be forced to sell Delap if they are relegated from the Premier League – a situation which grows more likely with each game.

Newcastle join race to sign Liam Delap after ‘£40m’ twist
Brown told Football Insider on 20 February that Ipswich will demand £40million to sell Delap come the end of the season after his excellent Premier League displays.
Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted that clubs will be willing to meet that asking price come the summer.
“Newcastle have had scouts having a look at him this season,” he told Football Insider.
“They want to sign a new striker and he has emerged as one of the name high on their list.
“But I think nearly everybody has been looking at him, he’s been really impressive this season.
“They’ll be looking at where they think he is at the moment and where they think he could get to in the future because he’s still only young.
“He’s got qualities there for you to build on, he’s strong, he works hard, he causes trouble for the opposition centre-halves and he scores goals.
“So he’s got a lot going for him and it’s no surprise there’s interest in him.
“When you look at the going rate for a top striker, I’m told Ipswich will want around £40million for him.
