Newcastle United beating Liverpool in the final of the Carabao Cup is expected to have a big impact on the future of Alexander Isak, according to Nicky Butt.
The former England international believes victory for Eddie Howe’s side against the Premier League leaders at Wembley on Sunday (16 March) will see the striker decide against departing St James’ Park.
It has been another outstanding season in front of goal for the Swede, which has generated plenty of transfer interest.
Arsenal have been heavily linked with Isak, and the evidence certainly highlights the Gunners’ need for a new striker next season.
Football Insider also understands Liverpool could offer Darwin Nunez to Newcastle as part of a swap deal involving Isak.
However, with a trophy potentially on the cards in the coming days, the Magpies’ chances of keeping their talisman could soon be given a major boost.

There is no doubt that everyone connected with the Magpies will be desperate to see Isak remain beyond the end of this season despite interest from elsewhere.
Butt has suggested that winning the Carabao Cup at the weekend would convince the striker to stay at Newcastle, especially when they are under no pressure to sell financially.

Speaking on talkSPORT, presenter Jim White asked the former England international if winning the Carabao Cup would help convince players to stay at the club.
In response, the ex-Newcastle midfielder said: “First and foremost Newcastle is an amazing place to play football.
“I’m saying that in bad times, you know, we got relegated. They’re passionate, they’re unbelievable, I would love to have been there and won something which they’re potentially going to do.
“The flip side of that as well is Isak, they can afford to keep him, they’re a wealthy wealthy football club so if they win the cup and the buzz of that place I wouldn’t see him leaving.”
Newcastle United must keep their top scorer
Football Insider Verdict
If Newcastle do win the Carabao Cup it can only be a good thing for them when it comes to the future of Isak.
Players of his level know they are good enough to win trophies, and are going to want to do so, with victory over Liverpool showing the Swede he could do that with the Magpies.
It would also give him the chance to play in Europe next season, which could further boost the club’s cause when it comes to his future.
There have also been reports that Newcastle will not be under pressure from PSR to sell Isak in the summer, and can instead attack the transfer market.
Combining that with silverware would help them to keep Isak, all of which would also make them an appealing destination for potential targets when they look to strengthen their squad.
As a result, victory over Liverpool at Wembley for Newcastle this weekend could mean more than just silverware.
