Newcastle United faced West Ham United without seven key players during Saturday’s thrilling 4-3 comeback victory.
Injuries during the international break added to the Magpies’ woes, with Sven Botman and Lewis Miley both sidelined. Botman is out for six to nine months with an ACL tear, while Miley is consulting a specialist for a back injury. Another notable absence was left-back Matt Targett, who is dealing with Achilles tendonitis, according to manager Eddie Howe.
While Targett’s issue is considered minor, it prolongs his return to action after recovering from hamstring surgery. He last played in November and has only made seven Premier League starts since joining permanently from Aston Villa in 2022. The absence of Targett adds to Newcastle’s defensive challenges, with Dan Burn often filling in at left-back.
Ahead of Tuesday’s match against Everton, Newcastle could be without up to 12 players due to various injuries and suspensions. Jamaal Lascelles and Anthony Gordon are both out long-term, while Kieran Trippier is nearing a return from a calf injury.
