Newcastle United have stepped up their latest transfer pursuit, this time Yoane Wissa of Premier League rivals Brentford being the target.
As reported by Chronicle Live, Wissa has departed his club’s summer training camp in Portugal amid speculation over his future. Elsewhere it has been claimed a £25m opening offer has been rejected whilst Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest watch on as rivals for the DR Congo star’s signature.
Newcastle have tried to usher in new talent after their latest successful Premier League campaign but so far it has proven difficult, even with Champions League football on offer.
With weeks to go until the start of the new season time is becoming limited. Here, Chronicle Live gathers the latest transfer news and rumours
Magpies ‘priority’
Amid the latest intrigue over Wissa, according to Africafoot Eddie Howe instead wants a midfielder as a top priority and his candidate has been sounded out.
Mahamadou Doumbia, 21, of Royal Antwerp and the Malian national team is named as the target top of the list. To sign him it will cost the full amount of his €20m (£17m) release clause.

Newcastle chiefs are reportedly looking to get ahead of Juventus, Napoli, Sevilla, Everton, Brighton, Marseille, Strasbourg, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray.
Chronicle Live says: Smart, under-the-radar recruitment such as this is what Newcastle have needed to be doing alongside their commitment to signing some high-profile targets. Doumbia would be an interesting addition to a squad that is well-stacked for top-quality midfielders, so he’ll know that he’s not in line to start every match and want to take lessons from the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali.
Callum Wilson talks
According to Jack Rosser for The Sun, Callum Wilson has entered talks with West Ham United about signing as a free agent.
With Graham Potter now in charge at the London Stadium it is said the 33-year-old has had long-term interest from East London. Whilst the Hammers are considering other options, Wilson as a free agent represents an interesting option.
The reason he would be able to move for free, of course, comes down to the decision to not extend his time at St. James’ Park.
Chronicle Live says: Nobody could begrudge Wilson for heading off to a Premier League rival. After so many injury troubles in recent seasons, he deserves the chance to prove he can be fit and firing at the top level, as long as that is any time other than against his former club!
