Newcastle are ready to reluctantly cash in on Alexander Isak if they land RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, talkSPORT understands.

As reported on Monday night, the Magpies are hopeful of completing a deal for Sesko after making a fresh offer of £70million plus add-ons.

It comes after the Toon wanted an answer from Sesko as to whether he wanted to join them within 48 hours.

Eddie Howe’s side had an offer of €75million (£65m) plus €5m (£4.3m) in add-ons turned down by Leipzig last weekend.

Leipzig ultimately knocked back the bid as they held out for at least an initial £70m fee – and a future sell-on clause.

Sources have told talkSPORT that Sesko’s arrival would pave the way for want-away Isak to move to Liverpool providing the two clubs can agree a fee.

Liverpool’s initial offer of £110m plus add-ons was rejected last Friday.

Isak has told Newcastle he wants to join the champions.

Liverpool are looking to sell Darwin Nunez to help finance the Isak deal with AC Milan and Al Hilal among his suitors.

The Merseyside outfit will not meet Newcastle’s £150m valuation, but are ready to make a second offer if and when the Sesko switch is confirmed.

Though Newcastle face competition from Manchester United in the race to snap up the Slovenia international.
