Newcastle United have made contact with Manchester United to discover the conditions of a deal for Kobbie Mainoo, according to journalist Jason Soutar.
Mainoo’s future at Old Trafford is currently up in the air after receiving no minutes in United’s opening two Premier League fixtures. The England international has every right to be frustrated with Ruben Amorim’s current stance on the midfielder, especially with the Red Devils yet to win a game since the season got underway.
Newcastle have endured a difficult summer transfer window so far, struggling to get deals for some of their key targets over the line. Jacob Ramsey, Anthony Elanga, Malick Thiaw, and Aaron Ramsdale have all arrived through the door at St James’ Park, but there’s an argument to suggest that only one or two will be guaranteed starters in Eddie Howe’s XI.
Newcastle Contact Man Utd to Sign Kobbie Mainoo
The England international is open to leaving the club. GIVEMESPORT sources have previously claimed that the Red Devils could demand in the region of £60m for him to depart. It’s a bit of an unexpected situation that has occurred in recent weeks, with many United supporters understandably expecting Mainoo to play a role under Amorim.
The Portuguese manager has opted for the likes of Mason Mount, Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, and Manuel Ugarte ahead of him as options so far this campaign. It appears that a departure, at least on loan, would be beneficial for Mainoo, especially with the World Cup coming next summer.
Mainoo will likely be desperate to become a regular for England, but he’s going to struggle to even make the squad if he continues to sit on the bench at Old Trafford. It won’t be an easy decision for the young midfielder after coming through the academy at Carrington, but he has to ensure he’s giving himself the best opportunity to play regularly and develop as a player.
