Incoming David Hopkinson makes jaw dropping statements for Newcastle United, makes Stadium hints and Trophy Vows..

Having spent time at Real Madrid, David Hopkinson has spoken about lifting trophy after trophy at St James’ Park

Newcastle United’s new CEO David Hopkinson has bravely vowed to “fill up the trophy case” at St James’ Park – but admits that a decision on the club’s permanent home is not “ready” to be made yet.
The Canadian arrived this week after stints with global powerhouses Real Madrid, the New York Knicks and New York Rangers and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

But now must focus on harnessing the ambition on Tyneside to a place of consistent success and help lead the club to adding to the Carabao Cup

When discussing the stadium decision, with a plans to announce the next move paused by the club earlier in 2025, Hopkinson told NUFC TV: “That’s something we are thinking about really hard. Higher ambitions are going to require some investments in, and I think the decision before us, St James’ Park, this is iconic.

“This is special, it’s a special place. Are our ambitions best served here, or are our ambitions best served even better as we create a new stadium? We’ll figure that out.

“I don’t think we are ready to make that decision today, these are nice options to be creating for ourselves.”

As he looked around the stadium, Hopkinson beamed: “This is a magical place. We’re at St. James’ Park, we’re on the pitch where legends have played.

“We’ve got the stands here that have been filled with fans who are mad about this team, so there’s such an incredible starting place. We’re starting from such a high place – but we’ve also got this moment of potential transformation as we get ready to play on the biggest stages imaginable, with higher ambitions than maybe we have had at different points in the club’s history.

“Being part of this moment is where I think there’s opportunity for even more magic.”

Newcastle go into the new season aiming to build on their Wembley victory against Liverpool last March but Hopkinson wants more.

Hopkinson said: “We are in a great position right now. We’ve got a great manager, we’ve got a great squad and we’re starting to get some hardware from that Carabao Cup.

“If you think back to that parade and cup celebration we just had, it’s pretty easy to get hooked on winning. Let’s go fill that trophy case, that’s the ambition here.

“I think it is a magical moment and I feel lucky, how much of life is timing, a lot of it so I am excited to be here today. I think we are getting ready to start filling up that trophy case, my job is to do everything in my power to fill it as quickly as possible.”
