Tottenham board issue statement to clarify Daniel Levy’s dismissal amidst the ongoing rumors

**Tottenham Hotspur Clarifies Daniel Levy’s Departure Amidst Speculation**

Tottenham Hotspur’s board has issued an official statement addressing the recent departure of long-serving Executive Chairman Daniel Levy, aiming to quell swirling rumors about his exit. Levy, who stepped down on September 4, 2025, after nearly 25 years at the helm, was replaced by Peter Charrington as non-executive chairman, marking a significant shift in the club’s leadership structure. The announcement follows weeks of speculation about the circumstances surrounding Levy’s exit, with some reports suggesting he was forced out by the club’s majority shareholders, the Lewis family.

The club’s statement emphasized that Levy’s departure was part of a planned succession strategy, highlighting recent senior appointments, including Vinai Venkatesham as Chief Executive Officer and Thomas Frank as men’s head coach. “This transition reflects our ambition to deliver sustained sporting success,” the statement read, underscoring the board’s commitment to building on Tottenham’s Europa League triumph in May 2025. It also clarified that there are no changes to the club’s ownership structure, dispelling rumors of an imminent takeover by the Lewis family, who own 86.58% of Tottenham through ENIC.

Levy’s tenure transformed Tottenham into a global brand, with the £1.2 billion Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and state-of-the-art training facilities standing as testaments to his commercial acumen. However, his era was marked by fan discontent over limited on-pitch success, with only two major trophies—the 2008 League Cup and the 2025 Europa League—secured in 24 years. The board acknowledged Levy’s contributions, stating, “We thank Daniel for his dedication, which has positioned Spurs among the world’s elite clubs.”

The statement also addressed fan protests from last season, noting that the leadership changes aim to align with supporters’ desires for “more wins, more often.” As Tottenham sits fourth in the Premier League, the board expressed confidence in the new leadership to drive the club forward.[](https://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/2025/september/tottenham-hotspur-announces-departure-of-executive-chairman-daniel-levy/)[](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6598456/2025/09/04/tottenham-news-levy-step-down-chairman/)[](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11675/13425060/daniel-levy-steps-down-as-tottenham-hotspur-chairman-after-25-years)
