Kris Boyd tears into Russell Martin choice of tactics after Diomande’s red card – has fans in total agreement

Former Rangers striker and current Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd was scathing in his assessment of Rangers’ 1-0 Europa League defeat to KRC Genk at Ibrox yesterday, with his criticism focusing heavily on manager Russell Martin and the club’s recruitment.

Speaking after the final whistle, Boyd looked “crestfallen” as he reacted to the loss, which was sealed by a goal from former Celtic striker Oh Hyeon-gyu. His overall statement suggested the situation at Ibrox is dire and requires immediate action at multiple levels of the club:

On Russell Martin’s Position:

Boyd was unequivocal in his opinion regarding the manager’s future, stating that the club has “no other option” but to start looking for a replacement.

* He acknowledged that Rangers had backed Martin, viewing it as a new project, but argued that the poor run of results—reportedly four wins in fourteen—means his time is up.

* Boyd implied that the “disconnect from the stands onto the pitch” is as bad as he has ever seen.

On Recruitment and Players:

Boyd also launched a strong critique of the club’s transfer business, calling for an “overhaul” of the recruitment team.

* He questioned the performance of major summer signing Youssef Chermiti, saying that despite the striker being given an opportunity, he “never seen anything in the first half that is going to excite me.”

* Boyd stressed that players signed for big transfer fees “have to come in [and] they have to make a difference,” which he believes is not happening.

* He concluded that while Martin will ultimately “pay the price,” other figures at the club need to be “held accountable” for the state of the squad.

The overall tone of his comments was one of deep frustration and disappointment, suggesting the performance was a new low point for the club this season.
