Alexander Isak has finally got his move. The Swedish striker has swapped Newcastle United for Liverpool in a British record deal, believed to be £125 million in total. After a transfer saga that carried on for most of the summer, the Reds got their man in the final hours of the window, officially announcing his arrival on Monday night.

No one truly knew which way things would end for Isak, who went to drastic measures to ensure the higher-ups at St James’ Park were well aware of his intentions to move to Merseyside. The 25-year-old went on strike and even released a statement on social media claiming promises had been ‘broken’.

Nonetheless, Newcastle and Liverpool were able to strike a deal on the eve of transfer deadline day, and Isak completed all formalities on the day itself. He will now jet off to join his Sweden teammates for the upcoming international break before returning to Liverpool for training.

Newcastle Bid Isak Farewell

In the difficult position of having one of the best strikers in the world wanting to leave the club, Newcastle stood firm for weeks. Adamant they needed to have their ducks in a row before sanctioning Isak’s exit, the Magpies finally secured deals for Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart and Yoane Wissa from Brentford.

While they finally let him go, the north-east club made sure Isak and everyone else were under no illusions as to how they felt about the dramatic saga. In one of the most blunt statements ever seen by a selling club, their message on the official website read as follows:

“Newcastle United can announce the sale of striker Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a significant British record transfer fee.

“The Sweden international joined the Magpies from Real Sociedad in 2022 and made 109 appearances in all competitions.”

There’s no mention of the Sweden international’s contribution towards Newcastle’s first trophy in 70 years. In fact, the forward even netted the winning goal in the Carabao Cup final against his new club back in March.

As pointed out in the statement, Isak played 109 games in all competitions for Eddie Howe’s men after signing from La Liga outfit Real Sociedad three years ago. It remains to be seen if the striker will be involved for the Reds in their next Premier League fixture against Burnley after a ‘difficult’ summer in his words.
