Newcastle United may be on the verge of seeing one of their key midfielders Bruno Guimarães make a stunning switch to Saudi Arabia. The Brazilian international, who has become a cornerstone of Eddie Howe’s side since his arrival from Lyon in January 2022, has emerged as a top target for Al Ittihad—and possibly Al Hilal—with Saudi clubs reportedly willing to activate his lofty €120 million release clause .

According to ESPN, Al Ittihad is leading the chase, having already opened talks with Guimarães’ agent, Alexis Malavolta. While no salary figures have surfaced publicly, it’s believed the Brazilian is seeking a package in the region of €40–50 million annually . Adding to the intrigue, Al Hilal—another PIF-backed powerhouse—has also expressed interest in the Newcastle midfielder .

However, Newcastle appear determined to hold onto their midfield dynamo. Recent reports indicate that Guimarães has rebuffed Saudi approaches, much to the relief of the Magpies. Sources say he turned down an early proposal from Al Hilal, preferring to remain in the Premier League environment for now .

Still, the financial lure and growing ambitions of Saudi clubs mean the situation remains fluid. With Guimarães contracted to Newcastle through the 2027–28 season, the Magpies’ stance is firm, but should a truly irresistible offer emerge, negotiations may intensify. Whether the player eventually yields or Newcastle dig in will shape not only the club’s midfield but also the broader dynamics between Premier League clubs and the rapidly expanding Saudi Pro League.
